Yow Cancer Fund Will Be At Deep South Classic

Former N.C. State coach Kay Yow started the Kay Yow Cancer Fund prior to her death in 2009.

Once again this year, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund will be a part of the Deep South Classic. The Fund, which was created by legendary N.C. State head coach Kay Yow before her death in 2009, is dedicated to finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

“The Deep South Classic is a great girls’ basketball tournament and we appreciate having a platform at this year’s event to tell Kay’s story,” said Sue Donohoe, executive director, Kay Yow Cancer Fund. “Youth development is critical for the growth of women’s basketball as well as the sustainability of organizations such as ours, which is committed to making a difference in the fight against women’s cancers. We must demonstrate to future generations the importance of giving back and using sports as a mechanism to do so.”

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s exhibit at the Classic will feature information on the Fund, as well as handouts that will increase awareness of the disease. In addition, there will be an opportunity to purchase items from the Nike Kay Yow Collection, including T-shirts, shorts and socks.
