Young Stars Will Lead Team Breakdown At Summer Basketball Playoff

The Team Breakdown program in Miami has a remarkable streak going. For the past seven years, every player who has completed her career with Team Breakdown has signed a Division I scholarship. All indications are that the streak will continue for quite some time.

“All of our 2016 kids have Division I offers on the table, and our 2017 class is loaded,” said Coach Pat Gajardo. “When it’s all said and done, I’m confident that the 2017 kids will all have offers. Most of them already have Division I offers, and with the others it is just a matter of time.

“The key for us is development. We might not play in as many events as some other programs, but we are in the gym more than anyone. Our kids are working in the gym six days a week, developing their skills.

“The scholarship streak is definitely something that separates us from other programs. We’ve obviously been fortunate to have a lot of great athletes in our program, but we’ve had a number who weren’t great athletes. A lot of our kids have gotten there with hard work and determination.”

The Team Breakdown prospects will be back in action in Charlotte, NC for the 2015 ASGR Summer Basketball Playoff on July 27-30. The event, which will feature many of America’s top club programs, will be held at the Carolina Courts facility.

Two of the highest profile young prospects for Team Breakdown are Sydney Jones (2018, 6-0, WF) and Cabria Lee (2017, 5-8, CG). Jones joined the program in mid-June, and Lee is listed as the No. 39 recruit in her class by the All Star Girls Report.

“Sydney is a super athlete — she can already grab the rim,” said Gajardo. “She could play four different positions. She can shoot the three and finish with either hand, and she is great in transition. Joined us recently, and she played great in the recent events.

“Cabria is a Russell Westbrook type of player. In transition, you won’t find many players who can stay with her. In the half court, there aren’t many who can stay in front of her. She can shoot the three, and she can get into the paint and finish.”
