WP Celtics Set To Compete In Lake Las Vegas Classic

The Wallace Prather Celtics have a long, successful history, and the Atlanta based club also has a very bright future. The Celtics have recently added several key players, bolstering an already impressive roster.

“We had a fantastic spring, and we’re really excited about what we can do in July,” said Coach Renardo “Nard” Hudson. “We have really been working hard to get ready for the July tournaments. We’ve had a lot of two-a-days, and individual workouts. We’ve also added a couple of pieces, and they seem to be fitting into place.

“We’re going to be a tough team to beat this summer, and we feel really good about our future. We have so much great young talent in our program. We are definitely looking forward to the next four or five years.”

Those talented athletes will be competing in Las Vegas at the Lake Las Vegas Classic, which will be played at the Westin Lake Las Vegas complex on July 10. The field in Nevada will be loaded with outstanding programs from around the country.

The Celtics roster is filled with talented veteran prospects such as Courtney Meadows (2018, 5-5, PG), a recent West Virginia commitment who is rated as the ninth-best player in her class nationally by the All Star Girls Report, and Taylor Mason (2017, 5-9, SG, No. 44). Hudson, however, is equally excited about a number of new players, including Lyndsey Whilby (2017, 6-0, G) and Chioma Joy Nnamani (2019, 5-10, G).

“Lyndsey is a very good, versatile offensive player. She shoots the ball very well, she can attack the basket, and she passes off the dribble well,” Hudson said. “Lyndsey also plays good defense. She has a strong body with long arms, and that really helps on the defensive end.
“Joy is from Nigeria, and she’s still a little raw, but she is very, very athletic. Even though she is still learning and improving, there’s just something about the way she plays the game. She can really score the basketball, and I think the sky is the limit for Joy.”
