The 2013 travel campaign has gotten off to a fast start for the Winston-Salem Stealers. A number of athletes from the North Carolina club received collegiate offers this spring, and that has program director Brian Robinson excited about July.

“We had a very good spring, especially our top team. We had a number of girls get new offers in the spring, and I think we got a lot of help from playing in Mike White’s events,” Robinson said. “We’re happy about going to another one of Mike’s events, and hopefully the offers will keep coming.”

The next such event, the FILA Nationals, which will include over 100 national teams, will be played at the Suwanee Sports Academy outside of Atlanta from July 6-8. This is one part of a series of previews for the FILA Nationals where we will highlight the outstanding programs who will be competing.

One of the players who was garnering interest from the college recruiters is 2014 prospect Cameron Nieters, who is a 6-1 wing. Nieters, who is rated as the No. 270 recruit in her class by the All Star Girls Report, recently committed to Harvard.

“Cameron can do a little of everything. She is a very versatile player, and that’s what the college coaches liked,” Robinson said. “She can 10 or 12 Division I schools recruiting her because she can hit the three, attack the basket, and defend on the inside or the perimeter.”

Katelyn Doub is another 2014 prospect who has made a verbal commitment. The 5-10 athlete is headed to Appalachian State.

“Katelyn is a a kid who plays a lot bigger than her 5-10 size,” Robinson said. “She has a very nice inside-outside game.”

The Stealers also rely on two younger players who recently competed in the USA Basketball U-16 trials. Kaila Craven is a 5-8 guard from the Class of 2015, and Bailey Kargo is a 5-9 prospect from the Class of 2016.

“Kaila does a great job attacking the rim, and she started getting Division I offers after the Deep South Classic,” Robinson said. “Bailey is a very good perimeter player. She is accurate outside the arc, and she can attack the lane.”
