Wiggins Waves Play At Home In La Jolla TOC

After traveling across the country to face top-flight competition over the summer, the Wiggins Waves program will finish the year in their hometown at the La Jolla Tournament of Champions.

“It’s definitely exciting to have the All Star Girls Report coming here for an event,” said Waves’ coach Terri Bamford. “This is a great opportunity for us because our kids won’t have to travel, and they will be sleeping in their own beds.”

Wiggins Waves will close out their 2015 campaign in their home gym at the La Jolla Tournament of Champions. The All Star Girls Report event will be played on Sept. 26 at the La Jolla Country Day School.

The Waves will be paced at the TOC by a group of talented young performers that includes Alaysia Styles (2017, 6-2, F, ranked No. 34 nationally in her class by ASGR), Mai-Loni Henson (2016, 6-0, F, No. 79), Te-Hina Paopao (2020, 5-8, PG, No. 15) and Kiera Oakry (2018, 5-9, CG, No. 175).

“Alaysia is a long athlete who can shoot the three and handle the ball like a guard, and she can also dunk a tennis ball,” Bamford said. “She is very quick, and she has a good mid-range game.

“Mai-Loni, who has committed to Washington, is a complete player who could play the one through five for us. Te-Hina is a special player who is coming off an incredible summer. She is a scoring point guard who is a great three-point shooter, she is very athletic, and she has a very high basketball IQ.

“Kiera is another super athlete. She is super quick, and she is very good off the dribble. She has a great mid-range game, and she is a good three-point shooter.”
