Westchester Hoopers Will Escape Snow At DSC

The Westchester Hoopers have been playing basketball in New York for nine years, and the program has the wonderful distinction of sending each graduating player on to college basketball.

“That’s obviously are main goal, and we’ve accomplished that goal for 100 percent of the kids,” said Coach Bryan Williams. “They have all gone on to play at different levels, but they’ve all had that opportunity. And, I think we do a good job of preparing them for college, because we want them to be successful at that level as well.”

The Hoopers will be getting plenty of looks from college coaches this spring at the  2015 Deep South Classic, which will be played in Raleigh, NC on April 24-26. The Deep South Classic, which annually features the nation’s top travel programs, will once again have the entire tournament in one facility — the tremendous Raleigh Convention Center.

The Hoopers will be led this spring by a trio of talented players from the Class of 2016 — 6-0 wing Ashley Martin, 5-8 combo guard Alyzae Davis, and 5-5 point guard Kayla Correa.
“Ashley is a multi-purpose player who reminds me of a female Scottie Pippen,” Williams said. “She rebounds, scores, and can defend just about anyone. She is a very intelligent player who gives you all the intangibles. Alyzae is a strong, tough player who shoots it well, handles it, and plays defense. She will attack the basket ferociously. Kayla is just your classic tough New York City point guard. She is a true point guard who sees the floor, plays great defense, and is just a gritty competitor. She is working hard on improving her outside shot.”
The next wave of prospects in Westchester is equally impressive. That group is highlighted by Korina Guerra (2017, 5-10, SG), Kristian Teklits (2017, 5-11, CG), Kaitlin Downey (2018, 6-0, F) and Teisha Hyman (2019, 5-9, PG).
“Korina is a shooter. If she is open, she is going to knock it down,” Williams said. “She is a good defender, and she is a smart player. Kristian is a wing with all-around skills. She can shoot it, she will rebound and play defense. Kaitlin is an inside-outside player who is a face-up four. She can shoot it all the way out to the arc, and she is an intelligent player.
“Teisha is an incredible young player. She can go to the basket against anyone, she can shoot the long ball, and she passes well. She is just a phenomenal player.”
Hyman will enter the spring as the No. 5 recruit nationally in the Class of 2019 according to the All Star Girls Report.
“Hyman is a big time player,” said ASGR analyst Bret McCormick. “She is a long athlete who already has a great skill set. She knows the game, she can really score the basketball, and she is a great passer.”
