Vegas Bound Salt Lake Metro Reaching Goals

Most travel coaches judge their level of success by winning percentages or trophies. The Salt Lake Metro  program uses a different type of standard.

“We don’t get into wins and losses too much. We’re more interested in how many kids we can place with college programs,” explained Metro coach Dave Hammer. “I just did the math, and with our kids from the 2014 class, we helped them get $1.5 million worth of scholarship money. So, I think we’re doing OK.”

The next prospects in line will face their next big test when they compete in the Lake Las Vegas Classic from July 10-12. The event, which will feature elite travel teams from across the country, will be played at the Westin Lake Las Vegas complex.

Salt Lake Metro standout MaCayla Hanks (2015, 6-0, F) recently committed to BYU. The top available prospects for the club now include Rachael McDonald (2015, 6-2, PF), Lindsey Jensen (2015, 5-11, G-F), Lindsey Johnson (2015, 5-11, CG) and Katie Toole (2015, 5-10, W).
“Rachael is an active post play who can step out to shoot it. She defends well, and she runs the court well,” Hammer said. “Lindsey Jensen is a big-time shooter with very deep range, and she has a good floor game. Lindsey Johnson is a strong leader for us on the court. Lindsey is also a defensive stopper, and just a good all-around athlete. Katie is another good athlete who is a slasher on the offensive end, and an important contributor on the defensive end.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, also added his perspective on the Salt Lake Metro leaders:
Rachael McDonald: “McDonald is a good, intelligent athlete with the size to be effective on the inside, but she also has the ability to face up.
Lindsey Jensen: “Jensen could play the two or the three. She is a good shooter with excellent range, and she has a high basketball IQ.”
Lindsey Johnson: “Johnson is good size and a good understanding of the game. She has a nice skill set and good leadership qualities.”
Katie Toole: “Toole is an athletic player who competes on both ends. She can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket.”
