UConn Building Monster 2014 Class

Geno Auriemma and his staff may be compiling a recruiting class for the history books.

The Connecticut Huskies recently added a verbal commitment from two 2014 standouts — Gabby Williams and Sadie Edwards. Williams is a 5-11 guard from Sparks, Nev., who is listed as the second best prospect in the class by the All Star Girls Report. Edwards is a 5-10 guard who is at the Blair Academy in Connecticut, and she is ranked 12th in the class.

“Williams was a hidden gem for a while, but now everyone knows her,” said ASGR analyst Bret McCormick. “She hurt her knee back in February, but if she recovers from that I think she will be a great player. She is a tremendous athlete with a great skill set. There’s really nothing that she can’t do.

“Sade also has a very good skill set. She worked hard on her fundamentals, and she has really evolved as a player.”

The Huskies previously gained a commitment from Courtney Ekmark, a 6-0 wing from Phoenix, Ariz., who is rated at No 8 in the class. They are also a finalist for the No. 1 ranked player in the class, 6-5 forward A’ja Wilson from Hopkins, S.C., and they are in the chase for at least three other Top 20 recruits.

“Connecticut obviously has the best class in the country right now, and it could get even better,” McCormick said. “They could end up with five players out of the Top 20. If they get A’ja Wilson, this will be one of the best recruiting classes ever.”
