The Future program, which is based just north of Chicago, enjoyed tremendous success in the summer of 2015. Now, The Future will look to close out the year with one more strong performance.
“We really had a great summer. We played in five major tournaments, and we never lost more than one game in any event,” said Coach Sylvester Simmons.
The Future will return to the court later this month at the Chicagoland Tournament of Champions. The All Star Girls Report event, which will be played on Sept. 26 at Bolingbrook High School, will feature an outstanding field.
The key performers for The Future at Chicagoland will be Crystal Walker (2016, 5-8, G), Ladellia Maggett (2016, 5-8, PG), Juliune Redmon (2017, 5-11, G) and Niqueria Short (2017, 5-9, PG).
“Crystal has been playing with us since the seventh grade, and she can score in a variety of ways,” Simmons said. “She is a slasher and cutter who is excellent in the open court. She is also a great defender who can cover much bigger opponents.
“Ladellia is a pure point guard. She is an unselfish player, but she can score. If you leave her open, she’ll hit the three, but she mainly gets the ball to the right person in the right place, and she is a great defender.
“Juliune is all about athleticism. She has some great moves, and she knows how to finish. She is a long, lanky leaper, and she is a quick jumper. She is great off the bounce, and she has a nice mid-range game out to 15 feet.
“Niqueria is a point guard who is a streaky shooter. When she gets hot, she will hit three or four three-pointers in a row for us. Niqueria is also a great defender. She is a long, lanky athlete who can cover bigger kids, even post players at times.”
