Terp Verbals Will Lead Atlanta Cagers At Deep South Classic

The Atlanta Cagers will be bringing a strong group of young athletes to the Deep South Classic in April, including two a pair of 2016 standouts who have already committed to Maryland. The future Terps are Jenna Staiti (6-6, C) and Sarah Myers (6-0, SG).

“Those two players are the anchor for the team,” said Coach Rodney Storms. “They are the key cogs, but we have a other players who have a handful of offers.”

The 2014 Deep South Classic, which will be played in on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

Staiti and Myers will two of the many stars at the Deep South Classic. Staiti will enter the spring rated by the All Star Girls Report as the No. 45 recruit in the Class of 2016, and Myers is at No. 54 on that list.
“Jenna just started playing about two years ago and she is still very raw, but her upside is through the roof. She was a nationally ranked swimmer before she started playing basketball,” Storms said. “Jenna has very soft hands, she rebounds, she has good post moves, and she can hit the 10 footer consistently. We’re working now on expanding her shooting range.
“Sarah is just an amazing player. I hate to make this comparison, but when I watch her it reminds me of Kobe Bryant. She has an unbelievable will to win. She has that type of personality and motor. She can shoot the three, she can penetrate … she can do anything you want her to do.”
ASGR analyst Bret McCormick is a fan of the duo from Atlanta.
“Staiti has really come on. She is athletic with great post moves inside. She can score down low, she can pass out of the double team, and she can shoot. She is kind of like Stephanie Dolson of Connecticut,” McCormick said. “Myers is very fundamental and very aggressive. She just has a great skill set, and she is a very good shooter.”
In addition to Staiti and Myers, the Atlanta Cagers are also expecting major contributions from Lochlan Corliss (2015, 5-7, PG) and Kenyatta Storms (2016, 5-6, PG).
“Lochlan is the fastest player on two feet, and she is the best defender in Georgia,” Storms said. “She has an amazing motor, and she can keep going for four quarters. Kenyatta (the coach’s daughter) is an all-around player. She handles the ball well and makes good decisions, and she is a good three-point shooter.”
“Corliss is a true point guard,” added McCormick. “She understands the game and runs the show, and she can hit the three. Kenyatta is a very quick guard who can attack the basket effectively. She plays hard, and she can shoot the three.”
