Summer Playoff Bound Team Ohio Takes Quality Over Quantity

The Team Ohio program has learned over the years that pace is important. Instead of pushing to play four tournaments in the key month of July, Team Ohio believes in quality over quantity.

“I’ve learned not to play in four events in July. It’s just too stressful, and we get too many injuries,” said Coach Tuck Connor. “I know a lot of people don’t think that way, but we demand so much from these kids, and it just puts too much stress on their bodies.”

This July, Team Ohio scheduled the Suwanee Tournament of Champions and the Nashville Tournament of Champions. The club will close out the season at the 2015 ASGR Summer Basketball Playoff in Charlotte, NC on July 27-30. The event, which will feature many of America’s top club programs, will be held at the Carolina Courts facility.

Team Ohio’s 15U team should be getting plenty of attention from college coaches in Charlotte. The unit is led by a strong quartet that includes Rebekah Green (2018, 5-8, PG), Taylor Pearson (2018, 5-10, WF), Olivia Fox (2018, 6-1, PF) and Jordin Blakeman (2018, 5-9, W).

“Rebekah can do anything her team needs,” Connor said. “She can shoot with range, get to the basket on the dribble, or throw nice no-look passes. She is a very skilled player. Taylor is a phenomenal rebounder. Offensively, she can go hard to the basket, and she can shoot the three.

“Olivia is a four player who is one of our leading scorers. She is very skilled around the basket, and she has a strong mid-range game. Jordin is a new player who has already established herself as one of our top guards. She is a very hard worker who is building her conditioning and her skills. She has a very good mid-range game, and her long range game is coming.”
