Loaded Southern Starz Join ASGR Summer League Elite

Few programs in the country can match the talent level of the Alabama Southern Starz, and in 2016 that star power will be on display in the All Star Girls Report Summer League.

“We had a tremendous amount of success last year. All of our top teams won AAU national championships, and we have a lot of our top players returning,” noted Coach Doug Bush. “The No. 1 thing about joining the All Star Girls Report Summer League is the competition. We know that we will have an opportunity to face top competition at each event, and you have the added element that the girls will be playing for something special.”

The Starz certainly have plenty of special players. In the Class of 2017, Mississippi State commitment Myah Taylor (5-7, PG) leads the way. The 2015 Mississippi Gatorade State Player of the Year is currently listed as the No. 47 recruit nationally in her class by the All Star Girls Report. The Starz’s roster also includes Unique Thompson (2017, 6-2, F, No. 80) and Haley Troup (2017, 5-10, G, No. 85).

“Myah is very talented. She is definitely one of the best players in the country,” Bush said. “Unique is a proto-type four player. She is strong inside, and she can face up with a nice shot out to 15 or 20 feet. Haley is a physical, tough player with an all-around game. She is a special shooter, but she does everything well.”

The club’s 2018 lineup is also loaded, with Elizabeth Dixon (6-3, P, No. 133), Ajah Wayne (5-9, W, No. 238) and Zipporah “Zippy” Broughton (5-7, PG, No. 88) leading the list.

“Elizabeth has the low block game and the face up game,” Bush said. “She is an excellent athlete who can rebound, block shots and score, and I think she will end up as a four player at the next level.

“Ajah is a slasher type who is great in transition. She is also a tenacious defender and an excellent rebounder. Zippy is a very skilled, all around point guard. She can shoot the three, create scoring opportunities and make all the passes.”
