So Cal Select Returning To NC For Summer Playoff

So Cal Select traveled across the country in early April for the Deep South Classic in Raleigh, NC, and the trip generated plenty of recruiting interest for several So Cal Select athletes.

“We were able to match up against some very strong teams at the Deep South Classic, and our kids got a lot of great looks there,” said Coach Matt Thalley. “We have had a lot of coaches calling since that tournament, and they’ve been calling from all over. I’ve had coaches call from the Midwest, Ivy League, West Coast … just all over.”

So Cal Select will return to the Tar Heel State for the 2015 ASGR Summer Basketball Playoff on July 27-30 in Charlotte, NC. The event, which will feature many of America’s top club programs, will be held at the Carolina Courts facility.

Among the players being scouted will be veterans Juliana Louis (2017, 6-1, P), Daije Harris (2016, 5-6, PG) and Celine Bolton-Ford (2016, 6-2, WF).
“Juliana is a great athlete who plays at a small high school. She has really stepped up on the big stage this summer,” Thalley said. “She is only a sophomore, but she has good footwork. I think she will develop into more of a four player with a good mid-range game and a shot that goes out to 15 or 17 feet.
“Daije has excellent quickness, and she can pretty much get to the basket whenever she wants. She also shoots the three, and she is a very good defender and a very good leader.
“Celine is something of a sleeper, but I have gotten a lot of calls about her since the Deep South Classic. She is very athletic, and she could play any position. She can bring the ball down court for us, she rebounds, and she can defend any position.”
So Cal Select also has a series of younger rising stars. Thalley noted that the club’s 15U team was “absolutely loaded,” with Sophia Carroll (2018, 6-2, P) and Delauna Thomas (2018, 5-9, WF) leading the way.
“Sophia has very good footwork, and she is strong and tough in the paint,” Thalley said. “She rebounds well, and she scores inside. Delauna is a long athlete, and she is a gym rat. She is working on her game all the time. She gets in the gym at 6 a.m. so that she can workout before school. Her confidence is really improving, and she is really growing as a player.”
