Riverside Hawks Bringing Large, Talented List To Deep South Classic

The Riverside Hawks will be bringing five teams to the Deep South Classic in April, and each unit will be loaded with talented athletes, and they will be playing at a frantic pace.

“We usually have the same style with all our teams. We like to press and run. We want to get up and down the court, and we are very athletic,” said Coach Ken Parham. “We lost a couple players from our U-16 team, but we are still pretty good. We have some good pieces, and hopefully we can put they together. Our U-15 team should be really good.”

The 2014 Deep South Classic will be played in on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

The Hawks’ U-16 team will be led by four standouts from the Class of 2015. That quartet includes Donasja Scott (5-10, W), Charlotte Renker (6-2, P), Taylah Hudson (5-7, G) and Aihnacinse Grady (5-5, PG).
“Donasja is a fearless athlete who brings tremendous energy to the team,” Parham said. “She can shoot the three or get to the rim. She rebounds and she runs the court, she plays hard and she is very physical. Charlotte is strong and surprisingly agile. She has good hands and good feet, and she has some nice moves. Taylah is an excellent shooter. She is an athlete who can get up and down the floor, and she can finish with either hand. Aihnacinse is just an ultra quick blur. She has an unbelievable handle, and she is a great, great passer. She keeps everyone involved, but she can also hit a shot when you need it.”
The U-15 Hawks will be powered by a pair of perimeter players. Taylor Goode is a 5-7 guard from the Class of 2016, and Maia Moffitt is a 5-9 wing from the Class of 2017.
“Taylor is a lights out shooter with unlimited range,” Parham said. “She is also athletic and she has a good handle. Maia is a very athletic slasher who can shoot the three. She is a tough kid, and she will be a high Division I recruit.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, gave his perspective on the Hawks’ standouts:
Donasja Scott: “Scott is a very good athlete who is a  high motor player. She will attack the lane, and she can shoot it from the arc.”
Charlotte Renker: “Renker is a strong post with good hand, and she can score around the basket with either hand.”
Taylah Hudson: “Hudson has good quickness and strength, and she could play either guard spot.”
Aihnacinse Grady: “Lightning quick point guard with a very good feel for the game. She can score, or set up her teammates.”
Taylor Goode: “Goode is a quick combo guard who can shoot it very well, and she is a competitor.”
Maia Moffitt: “Moffitt is another good athlete. She is an aggressive player who attacks the basket and knows how to score.”
