Rhode Island Breakers Returning To Deep South

The Rhode Island Breakers long ago gained a reputation for producing talented, intelligent, team-oriented young players. Such lofty status is often difficult to quantify, but in this case Breaker leader Bill Coughlin has hard evidence to support the stature.

“This past year, we had eight former players who were team captains for their college teams, and we had two who were CoSIDA Academic All-Americans,” Coughlin said. “I think those are pretty impressive honors. And, the eight captains cover all different levels of college basketball — we have three in Division I, two that are at high academic institutions, and three are at Northeast 10 schools.”

The Breakers will be back in action at the  2015 Deep South Classic. The event will be played in Raleigh, NC on April 24-26. The Deep South Classic, which annually features the nation’s top travel programs, will once again have the entire tournament in one facility — the tremendous Raleigh Convention Center.

The Breakers will once again be loaded with talent, and Coughlin ran down a list of older players who will be drawing attention from the college coaches (who may be watching their future team captain).
Julia Thissell, 2016, 6-4, P: “Julia is a pure post. She has great hands and very good low post moves.”
Molly Bent, 2016, 5-10, G: “Molly is a player who doesn’t have a weakness. I’ve been coaching for 26 years, and I rarely say that. Her original goal when she joined the program was to play in the Ivy League, but in my opinion she could play for programs like Duke or Notre Dame.”
Jenna Clark, 2016, 5-11, W: “Jenna verballed to Providence early, but they mutually agreed that she should open her recruiting back up. She is a strong player, and she shoots the ball very well.”
Katie Goncalo, 2016, 5-10, W: “Katie is a tough kid. She isn’t a point guard, and she isn’t a post, but she is a player who can do a little bit of everything.”
Elizabeth Abbot, 2016, 5-6, PG: “Elizabeth is a very smart point guard. She is a very good floor leader with a lot of skills.”
Lauren Foley, 2016, 5-9, CG: “Lauren is a deadly three-point shooter. She has one game last year when she hit seven three’s … That’s the type of shooter she is.”
Megan Russell, 2016, 5-11, W: “Megan is an athletic, left-handed slasher who is an Ivy League type recruit.”
Ainsley Burns, 2016, 6-0, G: “Ainsley is a good shooter who can also be effective posting people up.”
Emily Tripp, 2016, 5-9, CG: “Emily is a very good shooter, and she handles it well enough to play the one or two.”
Elfreda Hoff, 2016, 5-2, PG: “Elfreda is small, but people need to watch her. She is a very good defender, she shoots it well, and she is just a sparkplug for her team.”
Kasey Gagan, 2016, 5-7, CG: “Kasey is another very good three-point shooter who also has the skills to play the point.”
