The 2014 recruiting classes are coming into focus, and over the next month we will review some of the programs that are enjoying the most success in the early going. Here is a quick look at some of the teams that have been making noise this summer, along with the perspective of All Star Girls Report analyst Bret McCormick. Each athlete is listed with their ASGR national ranking for 2014.

Lamar: Marquelle Williams, No. 362, 6-1, PF; Samantha Morgan, NR, 5-10, G.

McCormick on the Cardinals: “Williams is a strong athlete who will rebound and score around the basket. She will have an immediate impact on the low block. Morgan is more of a two guard. She is long and athletic, and she can slash to the basket and hit the pull up jumper.”

Cincinnati: Anastacia Owens, No. 110, 5-7, CG; Ashton Lovely, No. 393, 5-8, PG; Mackenzie Cann, No. 445, 5-11, SG; Brianna Moore, No. 523, 6-0, PF.

McCormick on the Bearcats: “Owens is the highlight of this class. She is very quick and she has a great handle. She involves everyone, but she can score too. Lovely is more of a true point guard. Very intelligent and a good solid all-around player. Cann is a wing player with a high basketball IQ, and she has a nice shot. Moore is a good athlete with a strong body, and she is an aggressive rebounder.”

San Diego State: Chayenne Greenhouse, No. 198, 5-11, SG; Lexy Thorderson, No. 433, 6-0, SG.

McCormick on the Aztecs: “Greenhouse has excellent size. She can hit the three, but she can also post up and play defense. Thorderson is another big guard. She is very fundamentally sound, and she has deep three range.”

Miami Ohio: Kayla Brown, No. 263, 6-1, G; Baleigh Reid, No. 458, 5-9, PG; Ana Richter, NR, 6-0, F.

McCormick on the Redbirds: “Brown has excellent height and she could play any of the three guard spots — she shoots it, she passes and she knows the game. I think she will start from Day One. Reid is an athletic combo guard type. She can attack the basket, and she has three range. Richter is a three-four player. Her forte is the energy she brings to the court, and she does all the little things.”

North Carolina A & T: Maiya Gibson, No. 388, 5-8, SG; Kala Green, No. 396, 5-9, SG; Quenswayla Story, NR, 6-0, PF; Michelle Fitzgerald, NR, 5-10, WF.

McCormick on the Aggies: “Gibson is a strong, athletic player who can attack the lane or hit the three. Green had a very good summer, and I think she is a steal for A & T. She is a skilled athlete who has a wonderful all-around game. Story has a strong body and she knows how to bang inside and score. Fitzgerald is an athletic lefty with inside moves and the ability to go coast-to-coast.”

Columbia: Paige Tippet, No. 557, 5-8, PG; Camille Zimmerman, No. 637, 6-1, PF; Kathleen Ryan, NR, 5-8, PG; Riley Burke, NR, 5-8, PG.

McCormick on the Lions: “Tippet has all the tools, both as a passes and as a shooter. Zimmerman is a good athlete who can post up and put the ball on the floor. She is a very active, smart player. Ryan and Burke will give them depth in the backcourt. They could both play either guard spot, so they will have that versatility.”
