Georgia Pistols Shooting For Deep South Classic Titles

The Georgia Pistols will have a strong presence at the 2016 Deep South Classic, and the tradition rich program is expecting positive results.

“We are going to have at least four of our top teams there,” said Coach Jack Feagin. “We have had a number of teams go to the Deep South in the past, and they have all had good experiences, especially since they put the tournament under one roof.

“We have been to other events where they bounce you around to different locations, and then you find yourself somewhere with no college coaches. That pretty much defeats the purpose of an exposure event. That’s not going to happen at the Deep South Classic.”

The 19th Deep South Classic will be played from April 21-24 in Raleigh, N.C., and it will once again be held at the magnificent Raleigh Convention Center. The entire event will be played under one roof, with action flowing on 20 courts.

The Pistols have a history of sending top flight prospects into the college ranks, including current Louisville freshman Asia Durr. Over the years, over 250 former Pistols have moved on to collegiate basketball.

This year’s version of the Pistols will undoubtedly continue that trend. The highest rated player is Janee Knorr (6-0, F), who is listed as the No. 176 recruit in the Class of 2018 according to the All Star Girls Report.

“Janee is the only 2018 player on our team,” noted Feagin. “She is a good, solid post player who is coming back from an ACL injury.”

The team is also expecting strong seasons from a group of 2017 athletes that includes Kelsy Fizer (5-9, W), Tatiana Foster (5-4, PG), Jenny Giles (6-1, P), Jalyn Symone Oliver (5-10, PF) and Victoria Jackson (5-7, SG).

“Kelsy is very athletic, and we have been converting to a wing on our travel team. Last year she was player of the year in her county, and she is having a great season this year,” Feagin said. “Tatiana is a point guard who plays her position very well, and she is a very good defender.

“Genny is a post player who can really shoot the basketball. Symone gives us a very athletic, active post player. Victoria is a very fast two guard who can attack the basket, and she is very good on the defensive end.”
