Philly Triple Threat Primed For Deep South Classic

The Philly Triple Threat program will  be bringing a total of four teams to the Deep South Classic, including a unit stocked with impressive prospects from the 2015 and 2016 classes.

“We feel good about our top team,” said Triple Threat director Eric Worley. “We’re still finalizing the roster, but we do have our core group back. We have some high level players back from the 10th and 11th grades.”

The 2014 Deep South Classic will be in Raleigh, NC, on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

When Philly Triple Threat hits the court in Raleigh, the team will be led by a quartet from the Class of 2015. That group includes Kalista Walters (6-0, F, rated at No. 134 in the class by the All Star Girls Report), Deja Reynolds (5-10, G), Brittany Martin (5-8, G) and Deja Rawls (5-8, G, No. 268).
“Kalista is a player who can post up, or face up on the perimeter,” Worley said. “Deja Reynolds is a left-handed combo guard who is committed to Temple. Brittany is a heady guard who can handle it and shoot it, and she is committed to Quinnipiac (where her sister plays). Deja Rawls is a great on-ball defender who knows how to attack the basket on the offensive end.”
ASGR analyst Bret McCormick is ready to see more of the Philly Triple Threat standouts in Raleigh.
“Walters is a strong athlete who can post people up, and she can be effective out to the arc,” McCormick said. “Reynolds has good quickness and she can get to the rim. She also has a nice pull up jumper, and she can shoot the three. Martin is a quick, heady guard who can score and get her teammates involved. Rawls is a good athlete who really understands the game. She can handle the ball and pass it, and she can penetrate.”
