Palmetto 76ers Ready For Virginia Beach Classic

The Palmetto 76ers have developed a strong reputation over the years, and that stature should continue to rise during the summer of 2017.

“We feel great about this summer,” said Coach Jerome Dickerson. “Most of these kids have been with us since the seventh grade, and we really work to develop their games. These kids have put in a lot of time in individual workouts, and that is going to show up at the events.

“We have three kids who already have Division I offers, and five more who have offers from other levels, so we should be very, very competitive.”

The 76ers will be ready to compete at the 2017 Virginia Beach Classic, which will be played on April 28-30, with the entire event held under one roof at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The Convention Center is located just minutes away from the beach, and the venue should be loaded with college coaches from all levels. The area will be hosting the Virginia Beach Classic and the Nike Boo Williams will be 30 minutes away that weekend, and expectations are that over 600 coaches will be scouting the events.

The 76ers have a number of talented athletes who are 6-0 or taller, including De’Asia Gregg (6-3, F, 2018), Sha’Terra Ferrell (6-0, F, 2018), Kayla Bennett-Shaffer (6-2, F, 2018), Hannah Trawick (6-1, F, 2018) and Carla Brown (6-1, F, 2018). Gregg, who has committed to Georgia Tech, is listed as the No. 43 recruit in the country in the Class of 2018 according to the All Star Girls Report.

“I really think De’Asia is the best player in South Carolina,” Dickerson said. “She is one of those kids who could play all five positions. She played point guard for us last year, but we’re moving her to forward so that she can get ready to play at Georgia Tech.

“Sha’Terra is probably the best athlete on our team. She is lightning quick, she can jump, and she can really run. Sha’Terra can get from A to B in no time. She is a good shooter with three-point range, and her ball handling is improving. Sha’Terra’s upside is off the chart.

“Kayla is another outstanding athlete who can really jump. She is a great rebounder and she is a very effective slasher.

“Hannah is a player with all the skills, from a jump hook to three-pointers. And, Hannah is probably the hardest worker on the team.

“Carla is an all-around player who really hustles. She is a very good rebounder, and she can hit the three-pointer.”
