New York Based NDO Joins ASGR Summer League

Now in its third year, the NDO program is taking a major step forward in 2016. The New York based club will be competing in the elite All Star Girls Report Summer League, and the NDO staff is looking forward to the challenge.

“We’re just getting going, but I know a lot of people who have been in the game for a while, and I lean on those guys a little bit,” explained NDO director Greg Johnson. “They explained the situation to me, and it fit with what I already knew.

“We went to the Deep South Classic last year and we saw how the All Star Girls Report people work. We talked with them, and when we learned that it wasn’t going to conflict with the other things we are doing, it was a no brainer.”

NDO (which stands for No Days Off) will be paced this summer by a pair of highly-regarded players from the Class of 2017. Shanique Edwards is a 6-2 forward who is committed to Syracuse, and Alexis Sykes is a 5-9 shooting guard. ASGR has Edwards listed as the No. 94 recruit in her class.

“Shanique is a versatile player who is an outstanding scorer,” Johnson said. “She can score in a multitude of ways. She is good with her back to the basket, she has a good shot from about eight feet, and she is good in transition. Shanique is also a good shot blocker.

“Alexis is a knock down shooter. She is great from three-point range, and she is a strong slasher. Alexis is a very good defender, and she has also become an outstanding leader on and off the court for our program.”

NDO also has talented in the Class of 2018. Kania Pollock is a 5-9 point guard who is rated at No. 119 by ASGR, and Lauren McPeek is a 5-10 shooting guard who is listed at No. 218 by ASGR.

“Kania has great court vision, and she is a great leader,” Johnson said. “She is an unbelievable athlete, and Kania is probably the best rebounding guard in the country. She loves to pass the ball, but she will hit the three and she is very good in transition.

“Lauren is a long, lock-down defender who is a great, great teammate on and off the court. Offensively, she is a knock down shooter who is also a strong slasher.”
