NC Team Xpress Heading To Deep South Proving Ground

It’s a short trip from the North Carolina Triad area (High Point, Greensboro and Winston-Salem) to Raleigh, but it’s an important annual journey for NC Team Xcel.

“The Deep South is just a great platform. If you think you have a good travel team with good players, you go to the Deep South to prove how good your are,” said Coach Melvin Heggie. “They always have the top competition with the most college coaches. It’s the premiere travel event in the country.”

The 2017 Deep South Classic will be held in Raleigh from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.

The NC Team XPress club will be led by Shaniya Jones (5-8, PG, 2018), Brooke Anders (5-9, 2G, 2018), Jada Logan (5-9, CG, 2019) and Jo Snow (5-5, PG, 2018). Jones, a Virginia Tech commitment, is rated as the No. 77 recruit nationally in her class by the All Star Girls Report. Logan is listed at No. 360 by ASGR.

“Shaniya is a scoring guard who can simply put the ball in the bucket,” Heggie said. “I really think she scores the basketball as well as any guard in the country, and she is impossible to guard in the open court. She has great shooting range, and she is an electrifying athlete.

“Brooke is one of the premiere shooters in the country. Her form and mechanics are impeccable. She already has college range on her shot, she has deceptive athleticism, and she is a high IQ player.

“Jada has a college ready body. She is strong and crafty, and she does a great job of getting to the cup and finishing. Jada also has great vision and he is a great facilitator.

“When Jo started playing, she was very small, so had to keep backing up to get her shot off. Now she is bigger and stronger, and she has pro shooting range. Jo is very quick and she is very good at finishing with floaters in the lane. She is also a bulldog on the defensive end.”
