MCW Starz Making First Trip To Deep South Classic

The MCW Starz from Massachusetts have never made the journey to the Deep South Classic in late April, but that is going to change this summer.

“We have always heard great things about the Deep South Classic, but we always had a scheduling conflict,” explained Coach Amanda Zegarowski. “We are definitely excited to see for ourselves what the event is all about.”

The 2017 Deep South Classic will be held in Raleigh, NC from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.

The top two teams for the MCW Starz are known as Team Zegarowski and Team Jesus, a unit that is guided by Coach Jesus Rodriguez. Both teams will be bringing talented players to Raleigh, including Valentina Pepic (6-2, F, 2018), Paris Wilkey (5-10, W, 2018), Abby Settelmeyer (6-2, F-C, 2018), Jeylly Medrano (5-8, PG, 2018) and Maddie Clark (5-7, CG, 2018).

“Valentina is in her first year with us, and she is really coming along,” Zegarowski said. “She is a stretch four who is having a great high school season right now. She has great size, and she has a very nice touch from the foul line extended.

“Abby is more of a true post player. This is her first full year in AAU ball, and she has grown tremendously at both ends. She is a very aggressive rebounder and a great defender. She finishes well at the rim, and she has a good touch from the foul line.

“On the perimeter, Paris is just a great athlete with a wonderful knock down jumper. Jeylly is a very unselfish point guard. She is crafty with the ball, and she has great court vision. Maddie is another player who is having a great high school season. She is very quick, and she is a good three-point shooter.”
