Mac Irvin Fire Set To Return To Raleigh For Deep South Classic

Each summer, just like clockwork, you can count on seeing Mac Irvin’s teams competing at the Deep South Classic.

“How many times have we been to the Deep South? Oh, wow. At least 12 years, and maybe as many as 15 years,” said the leader of the Mac Irvin Fire program out of Chicago. “You know that you are going to get great exposure at the Deep South, you know it will be very well run, and you know that you are going to be facing great competition.”

The 2017 Deep South Classic will be held in Raleigh, NC from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.

The Fire will once again be loaded with talent when they arrive in Raleigh.

“I think we’ll be pretty competitive this summer,” Irvin said. “We’ll be guard heavy, and we have some very good younger players. We have some good players at every level, but some of our best prospects are the younger ones.”

Among the Fire standouts at the Deep South will be Monique Pruitt (5-11, F, 2018), Bre Beck (5-7, G, 2018), Lauryn Cross (5-6, G, 2018) and Brooklyn Fort-Davis (6-0, W, 2019).

“Monique is a very strong athlete who can really attack the basket,” Irvin said. “She also uses her strength and athleticism very well as an offensive rebounder.

“Bre has to be one of the fastest kids in the country when she has the ball in her hands. Are can score and she can run the offense for us, but her biggest thing is her ability to speed up the game.

“Lauryn can score the basketball. She is another kid with great speed. Lauryn is a slasher, but she will knock down the three if you give her room.

“Brooklyn is a long, wiry athlete who is a very versatile player. She can shoot it well out to 15 feet, and she is very good at putting the ball on the floor and attack the defense.”
