Loaded So Cal Select In Las Vegas Field

Ayanna Clark may be the current standard for the So Cal Select program, but the club has a number of younger players with very bright futures.

“Just about everyone has listed Ayanna as one of the best players in the country,” noted Coach Matt Thalley. “We also feel very good about the players we have coming up in the 2018 and 2019 classes.”

All of those athletes will be on the court at the Westin Lake Las Vegas complex on July 10. The field in Las Vegas will be loaded with outstanding programs from around the country.

Clark (2017, 6-3, PF) is currently listed as the No. 4 prospect in her class nationally by the All Star Girls Report.  Clark has verbally committed to USC.

“Ayanna is just a beast inside, but she can also step out and hit the jump shot,” Thalley said. “She is so strong that they can’t stop her near the basket. She is a lot to handle for teams.”

“Clark is one of the best players in the 2017 class,” added ASGR analyst Bret McCormick. “She can post up using her strong body, but she also has the ability to step out and shoot the three.”

So Cal Select also boasts a talented group of players in the Class of 2018. That group is led by Tyiona Watkins (6-0, WF), Nikki Freeman (5-9, SG) and Madison Johnson (6-0, WF).

“Tyiona is a long wing with a lot of athleticism,” Thalley said. “She can already touch the rim with no problem. She has a nice high release on her jump shot, she rebounds and she blocks shots. Nikki is starting for Mater Dei now, and that’s the top ranked high school program in the country. She is a shooter who plays good defense, and she is a savvy player who just knows what to do. Madison is another long athlete with a nice jump shot. She can create her own shot, bang inside for rebounds, and she runs the court.”

“Freeman is an athlete who can post you up or attack the basket,” noted McCormick. “Johnson has a good, strong body. She handles the ball well, and she has the good mid-range game to go with three-point range. Watkins is just a great athlete and an explosive leaper. She has good length and a strong mid-range game.”
