Loaded BWSL Richmond Sending Seven Teams To DC Nationals

The BWSL Richmond program has been gaining momentum this winter, and the club appears to be poised for a tremendous travel season.

“We have had an unprecedented number of high end, high caliber players come into the program recently,” said Coach Maxwell Coats. “We have never had this many high caliber kids wanting to join the program, and it is happening at all levels.

“One key factor has been joining the All Star Girls Report Summer League. People recognize how much exposure our players are going to get through the league. Another factor is our success last year. Every player on our oldest team got Division I scholarship offers. Finally, we’ve been fortunate in how our kids have developed. We’ve had a lot of kids come in without big reputations, and they have skyrocketed in stature with our program.”

BWSL Richmond will be looking to continue its successful run at the 2015 DC Nationals, which will be hosted by the All Star Girls Report staff from July 6-8 in District Heights, Md. The event, which will draw an outstanding national level field, will be played at the NEW 24 facility.

The recent influx of talent has allowed Coats to enter seven teams into the DC Nationals.
“We have been able to add a second team in some divisions, but these aren’t ‘B’ teams,” he said. “The second teams are just as talented as our original team in those divisions.”
Among the newcomers of note in Richmond are 2016 prospects Ashlee White (5-4, PG), Ashley Taylor (6-1, W) and Jaiden Morris (5-9, G).
“I went to see Ashlee White play in a high school game, and she literally did it all,” Coats said. “She is extremely athletic, she scores, she creates, and she gets everyone involved. She is very strong, and she plays much bigger than her height.
“Ashley Taylor is also very strong, and she is a knock down three-point shooter. She is also a tough defender who will bang inside, and she is a kid with a 4.4 grade point average. Jaiden is an exceptional defender who really gets after people. She just plays incredibly hard.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, also has a favorable opinion of the new BWSL additions.
“White is a quick, heady player who is a great passer with great vision, and she can attack the hoop,” he said. “Taylor is a good athlete with a very good skill set. She is a multi-positional player who can handle the ball on the perimeter and shoot the three. Morris is an athlete with a blue collar attitude. She is a very good defender, and she does a lot of the little things to help her team.”
