Knoxville Lady Panthers Prep For FILA Event

New UT-Chattanooga head coach Jim Foster is one of the collegiate coaches who is interested in the Knoxville Lady Panthers.

The Knoxville Lady Panthers can’t match the elite travel teams in terms of height, but the Lady Panthers make up for with speed.

“We have a guard-oriented team without a lot of size,” said coach Don Brown. “We believe in pressing and pressure defense. We’re a run-and-gun type of team.”

That approach will be put to the test in early July at the FILA Nationals event. The FILA Nationals, which will include over 100 national teams, will be played at the Suwanee Sports Academy outside of Atlanta from July 6-8. This is one part of a series of previews for the FILA Nationals where we will highlight the outstanding programs who will be competing.

The lone true post player in the Lady Panthers’ starting lineup is Savannah Selgemacher. Fortunately for the team, the 2015 prospect plays even taller than her 6-2 frame.

“Savannah is athletic, and she has a long frame with long arms. She plays like she is 6-5,” Brown said. “She  runs the court very well, she rebounds and she is very good at blocking shots.”

Selgemacher is surrounded by a host of talented perimeter players, with Logan Reynolds (5-7, 2015), Kayla Mullins (5-9, 2016) and Brittany Allen (5-7, 2014) leading the way.

“Logan is a super athletic, do-it-all point guard,” Brown said. “Logan is a pass-first point guard, but she can score too. Kayla is an out of this world talent who is coming off a great high school season where she scored 500 points as a freshman. Brittany is another good guard, and she just de-committed from Winthrop. She has about a dozen schools looking at her.”
