GBS Las Vegas Will Be At Home For Classic

Many of the top travel teams in the country will be heading to Las Vegas in July, and the GBS Las Vegas club team will be waiting.

“We are very, very excited about playing in this event,” said GBS coach Rich Santigate. “We are looking forward to being a part of the event. It’s good for Vegas, and it’s good for our kids. They will get to playing against high level competition, and they will be able to sleep in their own beds.”

The Lake Las Vegas Classic will be played from July 10-12. The event, which will feature elite travel teams from across the country, will be played at the Westin Lake Las Vegas complex.

Now in its second year under the GBS umbrella, Santigate’s squad features top athletes from the Henderson, NV area just outside of Las Vegas. Two of those standouts — Kealy Brown (2015, 5-8, G) and Nancy Caballero (2016, 6-0, F) — play for Santigate at Liberty High School.
“Kealy is a tenacious player who carried out high school team on her back in the state tournament,” Santigate said. “She is very tough and very aggressive, and she could play either guard spot. Nancy is a strong, rugged player. She gets matched up with bigger players a lot, and she holds her own because she is strong and physical. I think she has the skills to move to the three in college.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, added his perspective on the key GBS Las Vegas players.
“Brown is a quick combo guard who really understands the game,” McCormick said. “She can run the team and make good decisions, she handles it well and she can shoot the three. Caballero is a strong athlete who can score inside. She is a blue collar player with a high motor.”
GBS Las Vegas also has a pair of talented players from the Class of 2017 in Liberty Pfeffer (5-10, W) and Sayanna Roy (5-9, SG).
“Liberty’s older sister (Allie) played at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and I think Liberty is going to be a Division I player too,” Santigate said. “She is very athletic and very, very versatile. Sayanna led her high school team in scoring as a freshman, and she is another versatile player. She basically did it all for her high school team.”
“Pfeffer is a multi-positional player who can score inside and play on the perimeter,” noted McCormick. “Roy is a quick, smart player who has a good feel for the game and all-around skills.”
