FBC Magic Looking To Shine In ASGR Summer League

Mahlon Williams of FBC Magic believes his program is headed for a big year, and the Southern California club will have a chance to really shine as a member of the All Star Girls Report Summer League.

“We are going to have some very talented teams this summer,” Williams said. “We have a lot of experienced players who understand what it’s all about. They understand about playing on the East Coast.

“We’re also excited about playing in the League. It’s great exposure for the kids, and you are in a situation where the games really matter. In the League, you really feel like there is something to play for in every game.”

FBC Magic will have considerable talent throughout the program this summer. Leading the way will be Emma Merriweather (2017, 6-4, P), Sharonda Edwards  (2017, 5-10, G-F) and Camryn Owens (2017, 5-10, PG). The All Star Girls Report currently has Merriweather rated as the No. 395 recruit in her class.

“Emma understands how to play big. She isn’t one of those big kids who is always trying to get to the perimeter. Emma runs down the center of the court,” Williams said. “She is a very good rebounder, and she passes that ‘look’ test. Emma has only been playing for three years, but her offensive game is coming along.

“Sharonda is a super defender who plays with tremendous energy. She really blew up last summer. She has a great attitude, she is tough, and she hates to lose. Sharonda will get playing time immediately in college because she is such a good defender.

“No one really knows about Camryn now, but they will. She can just score — she has a floater, a nice jumper, and she can get to the basket. She is a point guard who understands the game, and she understands how to get other people involved. Camryn is just a high IQ player.”

In addition to those veterans, Williams is also expecting big things from Chloe Webb (2019, 5-8, PG).

“Chloe is another player who hasn’t really traveled, but she is going to blow up this summer,” Williams said. “She already has a college ready body, and she is the real deal. Chloe comes from a very athletic family (NFL star Terrell Davis is her uncle), and she reminds me of Chris Paul. She loves to set up other players, but she can score. She is very, very mature for her age, and she is very coachable.”
