Exposure Draws Hollywood Eagles To ASGR Summer League

The Hollywood Eagles program in Florida has been building outstanding youth teams for over 30 years. The Eagles have won titles, and sent countless young women on to collegiate basketball careers.

“Getting exposure for the girls is the biggest thing for us, and that’s why we joined the All Star Girls Report Summer League,” said Coach Edward Ferguson. “There staff just does a great job drawing college coaches to their events. You see all the elite college programs, but you also see so many of the smaller schools. That’s what makes their events special — the exposure you get helps everyone, no matter what your level is.”

This summer, the Eagles will be led by an outstanding quartet of prospects from the Class of 2017. That group includes Shante Walker (5-10, W), Mackenzie Sedaka (5-10, SG), Natalia Leaks (5-8, PG) and Alexis McClain (6-2, P). Walker is currently rated as the No. 173 recruit in her class nationally by ASGR.

“Shante is a versatile player who handles the ball well and shoots the ball very well,” Ferguson said. “Her high school team has had some injuries this winter, so Shante had to move to point guard and she is playing well. But, Shante is the kind of player who you could put almost anywhere.

“Mackenzie is an aggressive, lights out shooter. She is a fundamentally sound player, and a very strong academic student who plays with a high basketball IQ.  Natalia is a combo guard type who usually plays the point for us. She is a very aggressive slasher. Natalia is also a very knowledgable player who makes great decisions.

“Alexis will be on the travel circuit for the first time this summer, and we think she will be a dominant figure in the post for us. She is a very, very good defender, and offensively she is very good from the free throw line on in. Alexis is also a good free throw shooter, which is important.”
