Deep South Classic

The 21st annual Deep South Classic will be presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance in April. The four day event will be hosted at the Raleigh Convention Center that will feature 20 courts from Thursday, April 25 through Sunday, April 28, 2019.

ASGR Basketball brings many of the nation’s elite prep athletes. In past years, current WNBA players Seimone Augustus, Alana Beard, Jordin Canada, Essence Carson, Karima Christmas-Kelly, Alaina Coates, Kahleah Copper, Monique Currie, Diamond DeShields, Candice Dupree, Adaora Elonu, Sylvia Fowles, Dearica Hamby, Linnae Harper, Bria Hartley, TIffany Hayes, Tayler Hill, Bria Holmes, Glory Johnson, Erlana Larkins, Stephanie Mavunga, Erica McCall, Angel McCoughtry, Nneka Ogwumike, Chiney Ogwumike, Courtney Paris, Candace Parker, Devereaux Peters, Theresa Plaisance, Kelsey Plum, Epiphanny Prince, Noelle Quinn, Angel Robinson, Mercedes Russell, Karlie Samuelson, Azura Stevens, Diana Taurasi, Asia Taylor, Krystal Thomas, Alyssa Thomas, Kristi Toliver, Kia Vaughn, Victoria Vivians, Lindsay Whalen, Courtney Williams, A’ja Wilson, and Tanisha Wright have played in ASGR events.

The 2019 event will include age groups 17U – 14U (13U teams are eligible to play in the 14U age group). Each age group will include the top travel teams from across the country, featuring the top players. Considerable attention will be focused on the prospects in the Classes of 2020 through 2025. The Deep South Classic also provides college coaches with a tremendous opportunity to scout the up-and-coming youngsters. A series of elite players made their first mark on the national scene at past Deep South Classics, and more will gain fame this spring.

2019 NCAA COACHING REQUIREMENTS – APPLY EARLY!!!

The NCAA recently announced that once again in order to participate in coaching activities or sit on the team bench at an NCAA-certified event in 2019, coaches are required to obtain a USA Basketball (USAB) GOLD License. This applies to all teams at our certified events.

Teams without the USAB Gold Licensed coaches will not be allowed to create rosters on the BBCS, and will not be able to participate in the NCAA-certified portion of our events.

The 2019 NCAA Basketball Certification System (BBCS) is now ready for use.  Got to: http://BBCS.ncaa.org to access the system.  This is the system you will need to access in order to register your team with the NCAA.  You must have your team registered BEFORE you will be allowed to participate in any of our NCAA certified events.

To use the 2019 system you MUST have your USAB Gold License.  If you do not have your Gold License please follow the directions listed above.

To register your team you must read the directions in the ECAG Manual.  The process is new and more complicated than it has been in the past.  Pages 27-75 specifically explain how coaches and athletes create a user account in the new BBCS.

ALL ATHLETES:

ALL athletes must be registered in the BBCS BEFORE they can participate in this event. Athlete registration directions can be found on page 37 of the ECAG user manual. To access the ECAG user manual, go to www.ncaa.org/basketballcertification.

Hotel Information – Stay to Play Event- Deep South Classic April 25-28, 2019

Deep South has partnered with Pse Event Housing to provide attendees/groups with the best available hotel rates and a smooth booking experience.

Our event is a “Stay to Play” event: A good working relationship with hotels is critical for the long-term success of our event. For this reason, teams or attendees who are traveling from out of town are required to book their rooms through our Official Travel Partner, Pse Event Housing, to ensure that our room blocks are utilized. In short, since the hotels are holding rooms for our event, we must use these rooms.

FAST FACTS:

All travel teams must arrive Thursday, April 25th, or before your first game for mandatory coaches registration and certification. Registration begins on Thursday at 4pm, ending at 11pm and continues on Friday from 8am to 10pm. All teams should make departing flights Sunday April 28nd, after 5pm. If flying, please use Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) or Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO). Piedmont Triad is about 90 minutes from Raleigh.

Travel Coaches Certification Check-In:

Check-in will be at the Raleigh Convention Center on Thursday, April 25th from 4pm to 11pm and on Friday, April 26th from 8am to 10pm.

FYI:

14U, 15U, and 16U teams are subject to begin playing at 5pm on Thursday. April 25th. All teams will play in the Raleigh Convention Center.  Please plan accordingly.
