Emerging Team Breakdown In Suwanee TOC Field

After easing their way into the national travel picture in 2014, the Team Breakdown program in South Florida is looking to make major strides this summer.

“We are going to have four strong travel teams this year, and I think we will surprise some people,” said Coach Pat Gajardo. “There is a lot of talent down here in South Florida, and we have a lot of good players. I think we have some unknown players at every level, and they are going to make their mark this year.”

Team Breakdown will have a chance to make that mark at the Suwanee Tournament of Champions, which will be hosted by the All Star Girls Report staff from July 5-8 in Suwanee, Ga. The event, which will draw an outstanding national level field, will be played at the tremendous Suwanee Sports Academy facility.

Four players from Team Breakdown certainly appear ready to emerge on the national scene this summer. That group includes Amaya Scott (2017, 6-1, F), Brianna Battle (2017, 5-6, PG), Kira Mercado (2018, 6-3, P) and Isabella Lopez (2017, 5-7, PG).
“Amaya is a super athlete who can dunk a tennis ball,” Gajardo said. “She is great at getting to the basket, and she has a tremendous amount of potential. Brianna is a tough kid who does everything for us except for driving the bus. She can shoot it with anyone in the country, and she is a high IQ player.
“Kira runs the floor very well, and she is a tough player who likes to bang inside. She finishes well, rebounds and blocks shots. Isabella is a new player with a high, high basketball IQ. She is a scrappy competitor with very solid all-around skills. She can shoot it and handle it, and she sees the floor very well.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, also added his viewpoint on the Team Breakdown stars.
“Scott is a tremendous athlete with explosive leaping ability. She can be tough to defend in space,” McCormick said. “Battle is an intelligent point guard who can run the show and she has a very nice shooting stroke. Mercado has size, athleticism and footwork. She can score down low and rebound out of her area. She is one to watch. Lopez is a quick true point guard, and she is a high IQ player. She has a good skill set, and she likes to compete.”
