DSC Participant Big South Dream Team Has Big Future

Guy Coleman, the director of the Big South Dream Team program out of Georgia, enjoys talking about his 17-and-under team because he believes they are headed for a strong spring campaign. Coleman, however, gets even more excited when he turns his attention to his 15-and-under team.

Both of those squads will be competing at the 2014 Deep South Classic, which will be played in Raleigh, NC, on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

“We have a lot of first year players on both teams, and both teams are going to be talented,” Coleman said. “I think we have a number of Division I players on our 17 team, but the younger kids are one of the best groups that we’ve ever had.”
The 17 and under team will feature Keshundra Price (2015, 5-8, CG), Aliya Collier (2015, 5-9, G-F), Chambria Harrison (2015, 6-0, F), Aubrieanna Moore (2015, 5-9, G-F) and Amani Upshaw (2015, 6-0, WF).
“Keshundra is a high IQ player who can get to the basket, and she has a good mid-range pull up jumper,” Coleman said. “Aliya is a fast athlete who can attack the rim, and she is improving her three-point shot. Chambria is a long athlete who is a strong defender, Aubrieanna is a smart player with an all-around game, and Amani is another all-around player  who can rebound and attack the rim.”
The younger unit will be led by Sekeya Mack (2016, 6-2, PF), Jameica Cobb (2016, 5-7, G) and Mylashia Yancey (2016, 5-10, SG).
“Sekeya is a rebounder and shot blocker, but she can also put the ball on the floor. She has a very good upside,” Coleman said. “Jameica is a scorer who can get to the basket, and she can shoot it. Mylashia is an athletic defender, and she has a 4.0 grade point average.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, gave his perspective on the Dream Team prospects:
Keshundra Price: “She is a very athletic combo guard who can attack the rim, and she has a nice mid-range game.”
Aliya Collier: “Aliya is another outstanding athlete who is a true slasher.”
Chambria Harrison: “She is a blue-collar type of player who does a lot of the little things for her team.”
Aubrieanna Moore: “She is a smart player who can shoot the three.”
Sekeya Mack: “Sekeya is a long, athletic player who competes inside.”
Jameica Cobb: “Cobb is an athletic, scoring combo guard.”
Mylashia Yancey: “She is an athletic guard who will do the little things.”
