DSC Entrant Philly Triple Threat Optimistic In ’15

The Philly Triple Threat program has a strong foundation that allows the club to produce talented teams year after year. However, the 2015 travel season could be special even by Triple Threat standards.

“We are definitely excited about this year,” said program director Eric Worley. “Our 11th grade team should be very strong. They did very well last year, and we have them back together again. Our younger team won the Deep South Classic eighth grade championship last year, and we have the core of that team back as ninth graders. We’re excited about our whole group.”

The  2015 Deep South Classic will be played in Raleigh, NC on April 24-26. The Deep South Classic, which annually features the nation’s top travel programs, will once again have the entire tournament in one facility — the tremendous Raleigh Convention Center.

Leading the way for Triple Threat in Raleigh will be Ashley Jones (2017, 5-8, PG), Chris Alston (2016, 5-7, G) and Jordan Wallace (2016, 6-3, P). Jones is rated as the No. 197 recruit in her class by the All Star Girls Report, and Austin is verbally committed to James Madison.

“Ashley can score the basketball. She has played up for us the past couple of years, and she scored her 1,000th point in high school as a sophomore,” Worley said. “Ashley is good off the dribble, and she can shoot the three.

“Chris is very, very strong and aggressive. She is a slasher who is very good at creating scoring opportunities off the dribble.

“Jordan played up with the older group last year and got good experience even though she was hobbled by injuries all July. She gives us a great low post presence. She rebounds well and she has a nice jump hook with either hand. Now that she is healthy, I think when the coaches watch her it’s going to open a lot of eyes. Her stock is going to go through the roof.”

All Star Girls Report analyst Bret McCormick also provided his perspective on the top Triple Threat talents.

“Jones is a quick point guard with a nice floater in the lane,” McCormick said. “She looks to score, and she can attack the basket, but she also plays good defense. Alston is an athletic, attacking guard who is great in the open floor. Wallace is an athletic low post with good footwork. She can finish with either hand to score around the basket.Wallace is one to put on your radar.”

The Triple Threat ninth graders will be paced by emerging stars Jordyn Allen (2018, 5-7, G), Brittney James (2018, 5-8, G) and Taylor O’Brien (2018, 5-8, G).
