Deep South Bound Gauchos Ready To Compete

The Gauchos have been playing basketball out of New York City for 25 years, and one thing has remained consistent over that time. These girls just want to compete.

The Gauchos will have that opportunity at the 2017 Deep South Classic, which will be held in Raleigh from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.

“The Deep South always has great competition and they draw college coaches from across the country, so it’s a win-win,” said Coach Earl Elliotte. “We’re always just looking for a chance to compete with the best competition. We’ll play anyone, from A to Z. We’ve got a lot of hard-nosed athletes who want to get after it, and the Deep South gives them a stage to showcase their talents.”

Among the Gaucho players in the spotlight in Raleigh will be Asianae Johnson (5-7, G, 2018), Earlette Scott (5-9, G, 2018), Danielle Robinson (5-11, 2018, G), Brazil Harvey-Carr (6-0, W, 2019) and Niya Fields (5-6, PG, 2020). Robinson is currently listed as the No. 191 recruit in her class by the All Star Girls Report.

“Asianae’s athleticism is off the charts, and she is highly skilled,” Elliotte said. “Earlette could play anywhere on the perimeter with her size. She handles the ball very well, and she can finish with the best of them.

“Danielle is a multi-dimensional player. She has great range on her shot, and she can take contact and still finish inside. She also handles the ball well enough to play the point.

“Brazil is another do-it-all type of player. She has great size, and she is a very effective three-point shooter. Niya is a throwback point guard who handles and dishes like John Stockton. You don’t see too many young players like Niya.”
