The DC Heat opened the 2015 travel season with uneven results, and then the team went to work in June. Slowly but surely, the Heat began to gain momentum.
“We were a little up and down, but this team has length and some good shooters,” said Coach Jay Nolan. “Defensively, they are starting to come around. Their intensity is improving, and we are getting our rotations down. We weren’t playing well defensively when we started, but they are working hard and getting better.”
The improved, newly intense DC Heat will be showcased at the 2015 ASGR Summer Basketball Playoff on July 27-30 in Charlotte, NC. The event, which will feature many of America’s top club programs, will be held at the Carolina Courts facility.
The Heat will rely heavily on Gabrielle Green (2016, 6-2, F) in the paint.
“Gabrielle is a talented player who already has about 15 offers,” Nolan said. “She is really good in the post, with her left hand and her right. Her mid range shot is great, and she is a really good defender. More than anything, Gabrielle just plays hard.”
On the perimeter, the Heat will look to Autumn Ashe (2016, 6-0, G-F), Hunter Rowson (2017, 5-10, CG) and Kaleah Harley (2016, 5-6, CG).
“Autumn is a left-handed player who can get to the basket and shoot the three, and she also plays well defensively,” Nolan said. “Hunter is a very athletic player who is really coming on. She is a great on-ball defender, and she can really get to the rack. Kaleah is a really impressive three-point shooter, and she does a good job getting to the basket.”
