DC Future Mixes Veterans, Rising Star For Deep South Classic

When the DC Future team heads to the Deep South Classic April, the club will be led by a pair of savvy backcourt veterans, but the highlights will likely come from talented younger players.

“We are bring a few seniors down who really deserve to get another look from the college coaches,” explained Coach Keith Chestnut. “And, we will have one dynamite sophomore who is definitely a major Division I prospect, and a junior who is a crazy athletic rebounding machine.”

That crew will be showcased as the 2014 Deep South Classic, which will be played in Raleigh, NC, on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

Chestnut expects big things from Kieche White (2016, 5-9, PG) and Toluy Omokore (2016, F, 6-0).
“Kieche can flat out score the basketball,” he said. “She is a very explosive point guard who can score inside or out, and she is a great kid. Tolu is an athletic rebounding machine. She gets a double-double just about every time she steps on the court.”
The nucleus of the team will be completed by three veterans — Kaiya Coleman (2014, 5-9, PG), Daysha Adams (2014, 5-11, G) and Kholby Oliver (2015, 5-9, G).
“Kaiya is the brains of the operation,” Chestnut said with a laugh. “She is a great point guard. She was being recruited, but nothing came through, and I would really like to find something for her. Daysha was sick all last year and she wasn’t able to play with us. She has fought back because she loves the game, and she is a great three-point shooter. Kholby is instant offense. She has a great jump, and she made 25 three-pointers in five games at the Deep South last year.”

Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, added his perspective on the top prospects from DC Future:

Kaiya Coleman: “Coleman is a heady point guard who is a strong floor general.”

Tolu Omokore: “Tolu is a great athlete with a high motor. She is a strong rebounder and she can score inside.”
Kholby Oliver: “Oliver is a good athlete with a good handle. She can get to the rim, and she can hit the three.”
Kieche White: “White is a very athletic point guard. She is an explosive scorer who can really attack the basket.”
Daysha Adams: “Adams is a wing player who shoots it well with range. She wasn’t on the circuit last year, so she is one to watch.”
