Cincinnati Angels Returning To Deep South Classic

The Cincinnati Angels program will be returning to the Deep South Classic this year, and powerful program will be looking to make an impression.

“There was a time when the Angels played in the Deep South Classic every year, but then we got tied up in some relationships and we played in other events,” explained Coach Dante Harlan. “This year, we just decided that we are a fully funded program, and we are going to the events that we think will be the best for the kids.

“We’re really excited about the opportunity because we know it’s always a great event with great competition. We haven’t played in the tournament since they moved it all under one roof. I think that’s an added bonus for everyone, especially the college coaches.”

The Deep South Classic will be played for the 19th time in 2016. The Classic will run from April 21-24 in Raleigh, N.C., and it will be held at the magnificent Raleigh Convention Center. The entire event will be played under one roof, with action flowing on 20 courts.

When the Angels arrive in Raleigh, they will be led by point guard Braxtin Miller (2017, 5-11), who is rated as the No. 66 recruit in her class nationally by the All Star Girls Report.

“We go as Braxtin goes,” Harlan said. “Braxtin has started for us since she was a freshman, and I think she is one of the best players in the country. She shoots the three well, and she is big and strong enough to get to the hole.”

In addition to Miller, the Angels will look to Alexah Chrisman (2017, 6-3, P,No. 349), Ella Skeen (2018, 5-11, F, No. 145)  and Jaynice Stovall (2017, 5-4, PG).

“Lexi is not a back to the basket type post player. She can play inside, but she can also step out to the perimeter,” Harlan said. “She can shoot the three, and she can face up, rip through and get to the rim.

“Ella has deep shooting range, and she jumps out of the gym. She just has crazy hops, and she can shoot the three with the best of them. Ella really started producing for us the second half of the summer last year, and I’m expecting big things from her this summer.

“Jaynice is one of the best on-ball defenders you will ever see. She is a pure, lockdown defender, she has a good pull-up jumper, and her perimeter shot is coming along.”
