Chicagoland’s Lady Meanstreets Will Travel To Deep South Classic

The Lady Meanstreets program out of the Chicagoland area will be spreading its wings and venturing into new territories this summer. This new approach will include a trip to the prestigious early season Deep South Classic.

“We feel very good about the level of success that we have achieved, but we feel like we can enhance that,” said Lady Meanstreets director Eric Armstrong. “We’re going to be at some new events in some new areas, and I think it will be a great experience for the kids. There will be an opportunity for some college coaches from different areas to see our kids, and we’re looking forward to building a rapport with those new coaches.”

The 2017 Deep South Classic will be held in Raleigh, NC from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.

The Lady Meanstreets rosters will be loaded with talent this summer, with players like Shamare Hale (6-3, P, 2018), Kaylen Evans (5-8, PG, 2020) and Mikalah Ellis (5-9, G, 2019) leading the way.

“Shamare is an old-school post player. She is a physical kid who gives us a dominant low post presence,” Armstrong said. “Shamare bangs around the basket, and she has very good hands. She has some good moves inside, and she is developing her mid-range game.

“Kaylen is a tough, physical guard who is starting for her varsity high school team as a freshman and playing well. She is a heady player who knows how to get to the basket. Kaylen works extremely hard on her game, and her leadership skills have really been coming on.

“Mikalah is another physical, tough player, but she is a scorer. She can shoot the ball well from all levels, and she can put it on the floor and get to the rim. Mikalah is an aggressive player with a high motor.”
