There’s plenty of snow on the ground in Northeast right now, so Connecticut Basketball Club coach Scotty Nails didn’t mind thinking about his upcoming trip to the Deep South Classic.
“Yeah, I wish I was on my way there right now,” Nails said with a laugh. “There are a lot of reasons that we keep going back to the Deep South Classic. First, they always do a great job of running all their events. Second, it’s a great facility, and I’m a big proponent of one facility events. You know that you are going to be in the same building as the college coaches.
“They also have top-notched competition at the Deep South, and the place is always filled with college coaches. You can’t ask for anything more than that.”
The 2017 Deep South Classic will be held in Raleigh, NC from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.
Kaitlyn Davis, a 6-1 wing player, will be leading the way for CBC when they arrive in Raleigh. The All Star Girls Report currently has Davis listed as the No. 98 recruit nationally in the Class of 2019.
“Kaitlyn does everything well, and I really believe that she is one of the Top 50 players in the country in her class,” Nails said. “She just scored her 1,000th point as a high school sophomore, she plays both ends, and she is one of those players that makes everyone around her better. Kaitlyn is an unselfish player who leaves it all on the floor, and she is the definition of a student athlete.”
CBC will also be expecting big things this summer from Gabby Joseph (5-11, F, 2018), Kylie Schlottman (5-9, G, 2018) and Mariah Dunn (5-10, G, 2018).
“Gabby is a strong, blue collar athlete who plays hard on both ends,” Nails said. “This is her first year with us, and we’re glad she’s with our program. Gabby is an old-school type of player, the type of player a coach wants.
“Kylie is another blue collar student athlete. She is an inside-outside player who goes hard all the time, and she is a very good leader.
“Mariah is very athletic, and she is a coach’s dream. She works hard, she is a high academic kid, and she is a great teammate. Mariah is also a hard nosed defender who is probably our best defensive player.”
