Cal head coach Lindsay Gottlieb has picked up two newcomers who will impact the Golden Bears down the road. Mikayla Cowling is a top-flight prospect from the 2014 class, and Kyra Dunn is a transfer from Pittsburgh.

Cowling is a 5-11 swing player who was rated as the No. 40 prospect in the Class of 2014 by the All Star Girls Report. Cowling is currently starring at St. Mary’s in Benicia, Cal. Her older sister, Alex, is a senior at Loyola-Marymount.

Dunn is transferring back to her native California after two seasons at Pittsburgh. While with the Panthers, the 6-3 power forward started 21 games in 2011-12, finishing the year averaging 5.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.

“These are two nice pick ups for Cal,” said ASGR analyst Bret McCormick. “Cowling is a long, athletic swing player with a well-rounded game. She can rebound and defend in addition to her scoring ability. Dunn is a wiry athlete who could play the four, five or possibly even the three. She has a solid inside-outside game, and I think two years in the Big East helped her develop.”
