Bulldogs Will Head East To Deep South Classic

The Vegas Bulldogs will be making the long trip East to play in the Deep South Classic for the first time this summer.

“We played in All Star Girls Report events for the first time last year, and it was a great experience,” said Coach Karen Weitz. “We have heard so much about the level of competition that is drawn to the Deep South, and about all the college coaches, we were very pleased that we could make it happen this year.”

The 2017 Deep South Classic will be held in Raleigh from April 20-23. The event, which will feature some of the finest travel teams in the nation, will be played at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be 20 courts in the building, keeping the entire event under one roof in downtown Raleigh.

The Bulldogs are comprised of players from Centenniel High School in Las Vegas, and they are coming off a state high school championship. They will be led this summer by Justice Ethridge (5-8, SG, 2018), Eboni Walker (5-11, W, 2019) and Aja Phoumiphat (5-5, PG, 2019). ASGR has Ethridge listed as the No. 187 recruit in her class, while Walker is at No. 225 and Phoumiphat is at No. 247.

“Justice is our silent assassin,” Weitz said. “She will score 20 on you, and you won’t even realize what happened. She has a special knack for scoring and she makes over 40 percent of her three-pointers. I have also seen Justice defend some of the best guards in the country.

“Eboni is just a super athlete. It’s hard to explain what she can do. She can jump out of the gym, and she is explosive in the open court. She is working hard now on expanding her offensive game.

“Aja is an emerging point guard who joined our program this year. She is still learning our system, and I’m really excited to see what she can do this summer. She is a great, great passer and ball handler.”
