Boston Showstoppers Headed To Deep South Classic

When asked to describe his Boston Showstoppers team, Coach Clinton Lassiter uses adjectives such as “scrappy” and “competitive.”  Another word that would accurately describe the Showstoppers would be talented. Lassiter has a group of athletes who compete at a very, very high level.

“We have a team that is going to run and trap and press you all over,” Lassiter said. “Our style of play was built on good guard play, but we finally have some size to go with those guards this year.”

The Showstoppers will showcase their talent at the Deep South Classic will be in Raleigh, NC, on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

The squad from Boston will be led by a talented trio that includes prospects from the 2015, 2016 and 2107 classes. Jalissa Ross is a 6-2 forward who is rated as the No. 135 recruit in the Class of 2015 by the All Star Girls Report. Araion Bradshaw is a 2016 point guard who has already received Division I scholarship offers, and she is ranked at No. 106. Sayawni Lassiter (Clinton’s niece) is a supremely talented 5-10 guard from the 2017 Class, and she is ranked 66th.
“Jalissa is a player who prefers to face the basket and attack the basket, and she has good vision,” Lassiter said. “Araion is a strong point guard who can attack the hoop, and she is a great defender. Sayawni has a good, strong body, she can also attack the basket, and she has deep three-point range.”
Bret McCormick, a veteran analyst for ASGR, is also high on the Showstopper stars.
“Ross is an explosive athlete with leaping ability. She is a very good rebounder with a high motor, and she has an inside-out game on the offensive end” McCormick said. “Bradshaw is a quick athlete with a good feel for the game. She has three-point range and a nice floater. Lassiter is also very quick, and she has wonderful skills. She has a good step-back jumper, she can take it coast-to-coast, and she can hit the three.”
