Bonded Carolina Waves Will Compete At Virginia Beach Classic

Developing unity and consistency can be a major obstacle for most travel team coaches. The Carolina Waves, a Raleigh, NC-based club, has a serious advantage in that area.

“We have some very talented players at every level in our program, but we also have groups that have stayed together,” noted Coach Eric Hemming. “Our 2019 class has eight players who have been playing together for five years, so that team has a great core. Our 2020 kids have been playing together too, and they have some very good young players.”

Those players will be looking to make a statement at the 2017 Virginia Beach Classic. The tournament will be played on April 28-30, with the entire event held under one roof at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The Convention Center is located just minutes away from the beach, and the venue should be loaded with college coaches from all levels. The area will be hosting the Virginia Beach Classic and the Nike Boo Williams will be 30 minutes away that weekend, and expectations are that over 600 coaches will be scouting the events.

Among the prospects who should be shining for the Wave will be Jada Miller (5-6, CG, 2018), Nevaeh Haddock (5-9, G, 2019), Macy Fredericksen (6-0, F, 2020) and Molina Williams (6-0, F, 2020).

“Jada is a floor general with a strong handle and the ability to distribute the ball, but she could play either guard position,” Hemming said. “She has a good all-around game outside the arc, and she scored over 28 points twice this year for her high school team.

“Nevaeh is a great on-ball defender who is extremely quick laterally. Offensively, she can make strong moves to the basket, and her rebounding ability will remind you of Dennis Rodman.

“Macy gives us great length on the perimeter, and she is a very consistent three-point shooter. Molina has an athletic build and a strong basketball IQ. She can play inside, but she is also good on the perimeter and she can hit the three.”
