Best Choice United Set To Make Appearance At DSC

The Best Choice United program in Indiana has a simple, focused approach to travel basketball.

” We are a basketball family, where no one player is more important than another, and player development always comes first with us,” said Coach Marlon Wright. “We don’t put a lot of emphasis on winning games, we are trying to develop players and build confidence. We want our players to get better and get exposure.”

The Best Choice United prospects will get that exposure this spring at the  2015 Deep South Classic, which will be played in Raleigh, NC on April 24-26. The Deep South Classic, which annually features the nation’s top travel programs, will once again have the entire tournament in one facility — the tremendous Raleigh Convention Center.

The leaders for Best Choice this summer will come from the Class of 2016. Tyasha Harris is a 5-11 combo guard who is rated as the No. 27 recruit national in her class by the All Star Girls Report, and Emily Sullivan is a 6-4 forward who is listed at No. 167. Wright is also expecting an important contribution from classmate Aly Reiff (5-10, W, No. 105).

“Tyasha is a very skilled player on both ends of the court,” the coach said. “She is very creative, and she knows how to get to the rim. Emily is a three-four with a lot of range, good footwork and great hands. She is very athletic and runs the floor well, and she is a great shot blocker. Aly is a power player who is a great shooter. She is a versatile player who rebounds well and understands how to find the open spots.”

ASGR analyst Bret McCormick is a big fan of the Best Choice prospects.

“Harris s a strong player who handles the ball and passes, plus she can score off the bounce and shoot the three,” McCormick said. “Sullivan has a very good motor, and she will rebound out of her area. She hasn’t been playing long, and I think she has a high ceiling. Reiff is a multi-positional athlete who shoots it well, and she has a good feel for the game.”

Best Choice United also has several up and coming stars, including Katlyn Gilbert (2018, 5-11, CG, No. 3) and Anaya Peoples (2019, 5-7, PG, No. 25).

“Katlyn is very athletic, and she is a great playmaker,” Wright said. “She really understands the game, and she knows how to make her teammates better. Anaya is a scoring point guard who is an excellent ball handler. She can also score in a variety of ways — mid-range, long range, or attacking the basket.”
“Gilbert is a long, skilled athlete,” McCormick added. “She excels in the open floor, handles the ball well, attacks the basket, and hits the three. Peoples is a quick point guard who has a great handle and a great understanding of the game.”
