Best Choice United Gearing Up For Summer Basketball Playoff

The Best Choice United program out of Indiana went through a metamorphosis in the off-season, and the team needed to do some work in the spring.

“We added a few new pieces this year, and some of our returning players needed to learn some different roles,” explained Coach Marlon Wright. “Most of that fell into place pretty quickly, and we did well in the spring.

“Now we are focusing more on the little things. We’re really putting an emphasis on second effort plays right now — rebounding and loose balls. And, we’re always working on out defense.”

Wright and Best Choice United will hopefully have everything working in Charlotte, NC at the 2015 ASGR Summer Basketball Playoff on July 27-30. The event, which will once again feature top flight programs from around the country, will be held at the Carolina Courts facility.

Best Choice United will be paced in Charlotte by a pair of super talented 2016 prospects. Tyasha Harris is a 5-10 combo guard who is listed as the No. 27 recruit in the class nationally by the All Star Girls Report, and Emily Sullivan is a 6-4 post player who is at No. 146 in the ASGR rankings.

“Ty really puts a lot of pressure on the defense with her ability to score,” Wright said. “She can really attack the basket. Emily has really good hands, and she has good footwork in the post. She has a good mid-range jumper and a nice jump hook. Emily is also a very good defender and shot blocker. She doesn’t leave the ground until the last second.”

That duo is supported by Kaylan Coffman (2016, 6-2, P), Katlyn Gilbert (2018, 5-11, CG) and DeShawna Harper (2017, 5-7, CG). Gilbert is the eighth-ranked prospect in her class according to ASGR, while Harper is listed at No. 118.

“Kaylan is very physical, and she runs from rim to rim,” noted Wright. “She is a real enforcer, she has great hands in transition, and she has a good face-up shot from 10 feet. Katlyn is a leader and a playmaker who has tremendous court vision. DeShawna is a great on-ball defender with unlimited shooting range. She is good in transition, and she is a great interior passer.”
