Baltimore Starz Preparing For Deep South Classic Run

When the Baltimore Starz arrive in Raleigh for the Deep South Classic in April, the team will be looking to three high-level prospects  to lead the team to success.

“We are very, very excited about this group,” said Coach Antonio Johnson. “I think we have three Division I prospects on this team, and I think we will do well.”

The 2014 Deep South Classic will be played in Raleigh, NC, on April 25-27. Now in its 17th year, the Deep South Classic annually hosts many of the nation’s elite travel teams in a field that will eclipse 200 squads, and hundreds of collegiate coaches will be on hand searching for talent. The 2014 event will mark the second year that the Deep South Classic has been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The venue was a tremendous success in its debut last year, with all games played at one site on 18 courts, and it is in a convenient central location.

The trio of Starz stars includes post player Jordan Hawkins (2015, 6-3), shooting guard Adrian Jones (2016, 5-8) and point guard Taylor Bolden (2015, 5-7).
“Jordan is a true big who plays with her back to the basket, and she plays with power,” Johnson said. “She is a National Honor Society student, and her mother played at Arkansas, so she has a lot of things going for her.  Adrian is an explosive scorer who attacks the basket at every opportunity. She has excellent court vision, she has good shooting range, she is a good defensive player, and she is also a very good student. Taylor is very strong and she also has excellent vision. She is a pass first guard, but she is also someone you can depend on to create a shot if you are down and you need for someone to step up.”
Bret McCormick, the analyst for the All Star Girls Report, gave his perspective on the leaders of the Starz.
“Hawkins is a strong athlete how is physical on the low block and she can score around the hoop,” McCormick said. “Jones is very athletic and explosive. She can attack the basket, but she does have an all-around game. Jones is someone to watch this spring. Bolden is a true point guard with good quickness and a high basketball IQ. She is a player who knows how to run the show.”
