Aston Rolling In Austin

Once an assistant for the legendary Jody Conradt, Karen Aston is now the Longhorn leader.

When Karen Aston returned to the University of Texas as the Longhorns’ head coach in April, her first assignment was to re-stock the Texas roster. Aston and her staff picked up four solid recruits during the early signing period in November, and it appears that the Longhorns are headed back toward national prominence.

The Longhorns have already picked up three impressive commitments in the 2014 and 2015 classes. Brooke McCarty is a 5-5 junior point guard at Clear Spring High in League City, Tex., and the All Star Girls Report has her listed as the No. 13 recruit in the class. Aston also has commitments from two outstanding prep sophomores. Lashann Higgs, a 5-9 guard at Cedar Ridge High in Houston, is listed as the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2015. Alyssa Dry, a 5-9 guard at Aledo High in Forth Worth, Tex., is ranked at No. 17.

It’s no surprise that all three of these top-flight recruits hail from the Lone Star State. In addition, the entire four-player class that signed in November is from Texas.

“Karen Aston has done a great job of building for the future,” noted ASGR analyst Bret McCormick. “There is always going to be a lot of talent in Texas, and a lot of those kids grow up wanting to play for the University of Texas. The staff has done a great job of tapping into that, and they have a very bright future in Austin.”
