ASGR Updates 2014 Rankings

Ohio State head coach Jim Foster and his staff are recruiting two important in-state prospects — No. 3 Kelsey Mitchell and No. 14 Alyssa Rice.

The All Star Girls Report has re-set it’s national rankings for the Class of 2014, and the big mover was a point guard out of Nevada. Widely heralded A’ja Wilson kept the top spot on the list, but Gabby Williams came out of of nowhere to claim the No. 2 position.

The remainder of ASGR‘s “Super Six” for 2014 includes two post players and two backcourt standouts. Most importantly, none of the “Super Six” prospects has verbally committed.

Here is a quick look at the top players in the nation in the 2014 class, including comments from ASGR analyst Bret McCormick:

1.  A’ja Wilson: “At 6-4, and able to really play any position on the court, that’s what makes her No. 1. Plus, she is a lefty. Whatever position she is playing, she doesn’t try to do too much, but she does whatever her team needs done.”

2. Gabby Williams: “She just hurt her knee in mid January, which is really unfortunate. She is the player that everyone was buzzing about. Just a phenomenal player who can do it all. She is also one of the top high school high jumpers in the country.”

3. Kelsey Mitchell: “The best point guard in the class, but she has missed the past month with a foot injury. They hope she will be back before the end of the month. She is a very quick lefty, and she can pretty much do whatever she wants on the court.”

4. Brianna Turner: “She is a 6-3 kid that has the ability to play inside or on the wing. Brianna is a very good athlete with very good fundamentals.”

5. Gabby Green: “She is an explosive athlete who can really attack the basket. She also uses her athleticism and length to cause a lot of trouble for teams on the defensive end. She is another kid who can play multiple positions.”

6. JaTarie White: “A 6-4 lefty post player who has good post moves and a nice jumper. She is a good athlete, and she plays hard. She is the No. 1 center in the class.”

7. Recee’ Caldwell: “Recee’ is a tremendous point guard with a high basketball IQ. She can run the team, and she can also knock down NBA three-pointers. She will do whatever you need her to do to help the team, and I think this is a strong commitment for UCLA.”

8. Courtney Ekmark: “Courtney is a great shooter with great range. She is a unique individual in that she loves the game, and she is a tremendous competitor. She is also very smart, and I think she’s a great fit for Connecticut.”
