ASGR Summer League Will Culminate In Charlotte

The summer season will undergo a dramatic change in 2015, when the All Star Girls Report debuts the ASGR Summer League. The ASGR Summer League will provide the answer to questions about which travel teas are the best, or how the top two post players or point guards would match up. The League will feature 32-teams in each age group, for 17U, 16U and 15U. The best of the best will compete throughout the summer, with the League crowning its champions at the Summer Basketball Playoff in Charlotte at the end of July.

The concept immediately received a positive reaction from the summer circuit members.

“We are very excited because we think this is a great opportunity for our program, our kids and our coaches,” said Coach Pat Gajardo of Team Breakdown from Florida. “The competition is going to be outstanding, and it will be a great platform for our program and our kids. This event is going to be second to none.”

“Having a major championship that doesn’t include all of the shoe politics, where the best will be playing the best, that’s a great thing,” added Coach Mahlon Williams of So Cal Magic. “In the past, teams tend to play a lot of mediocre games leading up to the viewing period. With this format, we will be playing top competition before the viewing period, and that’s the perfect way to prepare.”

Each team in the ASGR Summer League will play three regular season games. These games will be scheduled on the days  leading up to the traditional major ASGR events, including the tournaments in Raleigh, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Las Vegas. The Summer League games will be separate from these main tournaments. Each League team will play in the Summer Basketball Playoff, with the regular season contests used for seeding purposes.

The 2015 titles will then be determined in Charlotte, where one home town club will be going for the title.
“This is an amazing opportunity for our program,” said Coach Vince Jacobs of CBC Elite, which is based in Charlotte. “Our kids are going to be sleeping in their own beds, and then they will be playing against the best competition in the country. We’re thrilled to death.
“We’ve been building up our teams, and this event is really going to help draw in more talent. We are doing what we can to put together the best possible representative for Charlotte for this tournament, and I think we have a good chance to be very competitive.”
Of course, teams from across the country will be eyeing the national championship trophies.
“We have always competed at the highest level,” Williams said. “We usually have a few players who are under the radar, but when it comes to competing, they are second to none. Anywhere we go, and whoever we play, my expectation is that we are going to perform and we are going to win.”

The All Star Girls Report was launched by White in 1995, and it has been providing the nation’s most accurate player ratings for the past 20 years. White’s Top Ten All American Camp has produced 175 McDonald’s All-Americans since 2001, and he spent 15 years serving as a grassroots consultant for major brands such as adidas, Reebok and FILA. White, who currently serves on the McDonald’s All-American Selection Committee, successfully launched the Michael T. White Signature Shoe and Clothing Line in 2008.

The fact that the event is being run by the experienced ASGR staff has been a major selling point with the travel programs.

“Mike has been involved in grass roots basketball for over 20 years, and during that time he has developed an expertise and he has surrounded himself with quality people,” Gajardo said. “They know what it takes to make major events like this successful.”
