Arizona Select Will Travel To Deep South Classic

The players at Arizona Select have a simple mission: continued improvement. That’s the program’s goal, and they have developed a system that delivers results.

“We just want the kids to continue to develop and learn about the game,” said Coach Ben Boyd. “We tell them, ‘Don’t train where you are at, train for where you want to be.’ So if you’re an eighth grader who wants to be a starter on the varsity, train like you are a starter on the varsity. If you are with one of our top teams, you are going to train like you are on a college team.

“We want to give the kids the maximum possible exposure, and we want to prepare them. We aren’t just trying to get them a scholarship, we want to prepare them to have immediate success at the next level.”

Arizona Select’s progress will be on display this spring at the  2015 Deep South Classic, which will be played in Raleigh, NC on April 24-26. The Deep South Classic, which annually features the nation’s top travel programs, will once again have the entire tournament in one facility — the tremendous Raleigh Convention Center.

The key performers for Arizona Select this year will be Lauryn Satterwhite (2017, 5-8, PG) and Caitlin Bickle (2018, 6-1, F). Satterwhite enters the spring as the No. 190 recruit in her class according to the All Star Girls Report, while Bickle is listed at No. 74 on the 2018 chart.
“I think Lauryn is the best point guard on the West Coast. She is easily in the top three,” Boyd said. “Lauryn is a long, left-handed athlete who is a great on-ball defender. She can also create a shot for herself, or for her teammates. Caitlin is a stretch four with an inside-outside game. She is extremely skilled and intelligent, and she is very agile for her size.”
ASGR analyst Bret McCormick also provided his perspective on the Arizona Select standouts.
“Satterwhite has good quickness and a nice floater in the lane,” McCormick said. “She is an intelligent player who can score the basketball. Bickle is a skilled athlete who shoots it well, and she really competes on the court.”
Boyd is also expecting major contributions from Taylor Chavez (2018, 5-10, CG) and Alana Kelley (2018, 5-11, WF).
“Taylor is an all-around player. As a point guard, she can create shots, and she can hit the three. She also has great pace to her game, and she always seems to be in the right place at the right time,” the coach said. “Alana is a great rebounder with an inside-outside game. Her face-up game is improving rapidly.”
“Chavez is an athletic combo guard with a strong skill set and a good understanding of the game,” noted McCormick. “Kelley is a good athlete with a blue collar approach. She can rebound and score inside, and her perimeter game is coming.”
